I took a spontaneous trip to Bolsa Chica beach a few weeks ago (July 3, to be specific). It was such a great and relaxing trip... at the beginning. As we got there, we decided to set up our half tent, which immediately tried to turn itself into a kite. We gave up on that, and sun-screened up then headed into the water. The rip current was really strong right at the beach, and so within 5 minutes we were a good 20 feet from where we started. We would get out, head back down to where we started, then fight it all over again. I finally got tired of constantly being swept away, and headed back to our little camp. We dried off, decided to catch some sun... then the wind picked up again and it got cold. At this time, it was close to 5:30, and we were debating staying (we really wanted to see the sunset), but we were getting a bit uncomfortable. I ended up getting stung by a bee, and that made the final decision for us. I had to wait for the pain to subside -- side note, I'm not allergic to bee stings! -- then we decided to go get dinner.  Bee stings, especially in the finger, are terribly painful. It was worse than when I broke my other finger. I can't imagine how bad a fire ant sting is if it's worse than a bee sting. Anyway, off topic. Enjoy some pictures from Bolsa Chica! :)
